Urgent Call to Action!

The PE Bill SB256 goes to the Education Committee of the Senate on Monday, Jan. 23. Once it passes the committee,
it goes for a full Senate vote. Last year we were able to get most of the Northern VA House Delegates to vote no but NO Senators.
We are asking you to contact the committee chair as well as the three Northern Virginia senators. (Howell, Barker and Saslaw) Here is an email list for you to cut and paste:.

district11@senate.virginia.gov
district39@senate.virginia.gov
district35@senate.virginia.gov
district32@senate.virginia.gov

There is a full list of the education committee and talking points from VCFAE in the button below, and the specific language of the bill if you continue beyond that. This bill is a remakeof the PE bill that DID pass in both Assembly chambers but was vetoed by Governor McDonnell. This bill requires 30 minutes of daily physical activity. While it looks like this activity could comefrom participation in a school sport, it also means since not all students participate in sports – they would more than likely have to take a class, eliminating electives in grades 11 and 12. It alsowould cause scheduling and economic problems at the elementary and middle school levels. Please, please take the time to contact this committee BEFORE noon on Monday, Jan. 23 and keep an eye on your personal email.

Thank you!

Mary Wagner and Christian Donlon
